Waikanae Properties Known For Their Beautiful
Gardens Say Waikanae Real Estate Agents

One local Kapiti real estate agent describes Waikanae as “one of
the prettiest towns in New Zealand with its setting of a river, bush, mountain and beach.” He's not
wrong. The suburb is a gardener's delight with its rich alluvial soils. In years
gone by the land was a popular market garden area, but increasing property values
and residential developments have changed all that. However, the soil remains very fertile,
and the town is the chosen home for many keen gardeners. A drive down Te Moana Road and
some of the side roads will show the pride many residents take in their Waikanae properties. Some
are a Kapiti real estate agents dream, as they have well established gardens, offer privacy, and
present really well to prospective home owners (buyers).
Property values do vary quite a bit in the area, as there is a mix
of older beach side holiday homes, 1970's style town houses, family homes, and large executive
style residences. Waikanae real estate values also vary depending on the location.
There are houses with wonderful 180 degree views on the hill
overlooking Kapiti Island. Mount Taranaki (Egmont) can even be seen on a clear day from many
residences. There are homes on the flat close to the main Shopping area and Mahara Place. These are
popular with retirees. There are also some older style holiday homes and spacious
new dwellings at Waikanae Beach and overlooking Waikanae Estuary.
The Waikanae river runs east to west and is located south of the
town and borders Paraparaumu and Otaihanga. The river has several popular swimming holes, and
a walkway. The river mouth is also a popular spot for whitebaiter's during the whitebaiting
season.
Waikanae Beach stretches for a long distance and is gereally
safe for swimmers, and the long sandy beach is a favourite with walkers and joggers. The sea
between Waikanae Beach and Kapiti Island (about 4 kilometres offshore) is a marine
reserve.
More young families are moving into the area giving Waikanae real estate a boost with many
well presented Waikanae properties selling quickly.
Facts about Waikanae (New Zealand)
Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast, not to be confused with the
Waikanae near Gisborne, is located around 60 kilometres north of New Zealand's capital city
of Wellington. The township is eight kilometres north east of Paraparaumu and about 15 k
south of Otaki on the northern boundary of the Kapiti Coast. Just north of the main township is
Peka Peka.
The township is adjacent to New Zealand's State Highway One
and the main truck railway line from Wellington to Auckland. The township is serviced (from 2011)
by an electrified commuter rail service to Wellington.
To the west of the township, are the Tararua Ranges, Reikorangi
and the Akatarawa Valley. A road through the valley (narrow in
places) provides a link with the Hutt Valley.
